Three cuts

Three cuts is a daily game of estimating area. You drag a knife across a shape and try to cut off exactly the share asked for, say 25%. The smaller piece always counts, and you only see its percentage after the cut. An exact cut scores 100 points, up to 300 a day.

How to play

  1. Drag a dot to turn the knife; drag anywhere else to slide it.
  2. Once the knife crosses the shape, the piece that would fall off lights up. Its percentage stays hidden until you cut.
  3. Confirm your final cut. A yellow line then shows where the cut should have gone.

Scoring

An exact cut scores 100 points, 2 percentage points off still 90, 15 or more off 0.

FAQ

Does everyone get the same shapes?
Yes. The shapes and targets come from the date, so everyone cuts the same three shapes on the same day.
How hard are the shapes?
They get harder round by round: a bumpy blob first, then a polygon with dented corners, then a concave shape such as a star or a horseshoe, where one cut can split off several pieces.
